MIAMI – May 16, 2013 – Ready, set, race, fundraise! When top-producing Miami Realtor, Lucas Lechuga, sets a goal, he goes big. This November, Lucas will be participating in one of the most challenging competitions that exists for endurance athletes—the IRONMAN race. Simultaneously, he is striving to raise $1,000 for every mile of the event to benefit Camillus House.
In Panama City Beach, Florida, this November 2nd, Lucas will be competing in his first IRONMAN triathlon, which demands athletes to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles in under 17 hours. An ambitious event for anyone, Lucas is taking the challenge one step further in an effort to give back to the Miami community that he loves.
Lucas is participating in the race as a member of the IRONMAN Foundation program, which allows competitors to fundraise on behalf of a charity of their choosing. Lucas chose to partner with Camillus House and has set a goal to raise $140,600 through his IRONMAN fundraising page where people can pledge donations for the cause. Additionally, he has committed to donating 10% of all real estate commissions that he personally earns through race day.
Camillus House was the obvious choice for Lucas who, as a real estate agent, has the privilege of helping people find their next home. Renown throughout Miami for the outstanding work it does in helping homeless individuals, Camillus House is a community organization that aims to get people on their feet by providing them with a place to stay and resources needed for a second chance.
[blockquote cite=”Lucas Lechuga”]I think we all need support at various points in life. That
is why I decided to fundraise for Camillus House. They provide a last-resort support system for the homeless who would otherwise have no place to turn,” says Lucas. “On a personal level, the IRONMAN acts a statement to myself that I am mentally and physically strong enough to overcome any challenges that life throws my way. Through perseverance and dedication, nothing should be considered insurmountable. I look forward to the next five and a half months and am truly excited about the positive change that my fundraising efforts will bring to the homeless throughout Miami. [/blockquote]
[blockquote cite=”Sam Gil, vice president of marketing and communications for Camillus House”]We’re delighted to be the beneficiary of Lucas’ Ironman competition. “The funds raised through his efforts will go a long way toward helping Camillus House to feed and house persons who are poor and homeless in Miami.[/blockquote]

About Camillus House
Since our founding more than 50 years ago, Camillus House has grown steadily over the years from a small overnight shelter serving Cuban refugees into a full service center offering a “continuum of care” for persons who are poor and homeless. Every service offered at Camillus is carried out with the deeply held belief that every human being is precious in the eyes of the Lord and deserves love, respect, and a chance to live a dignified life. Camillus does much more than offer a free meal, medical care, a shower, or drug treatment. We offer a second chance to the desperate, the lonely, and the ones society has left behind. Many of the clients who come to Camillus House have nowhere else to go. They have no friends, no family, and no loved ones to help them. Camillus House becomes their family, giving them the hope and support they need to begin the long, difficult transition to a new life and self-sufficiency. Camillus House is located at 1603 Northwest 7th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33136. For more information, visit http://www.camillus.org/.
