Assure vs. Ensure vs. Insure

Today’s Grammar Refresher is about the difference between ‘assure,’ ‘ensure’ and ‘insure.’ This lesson will help you ensure that you use these words in the correct context. Assure: To give someone a guarantee that will ease his or her concerns. Example:  I can assure you that the store will have your order ready this afternoon. Ensure: To take an action to make sure something happens. Example: The waiter wrote down the customer’s order to ensure that the kitchen made it correctly. Insure: Refers to guarantees made through insurance policies. Example:  The company insures automobiles.
