What is social media?
The simplest definition of social media is that it encompasses all of the ways people share information and communication on the Internet. The types of social media differ based on the function of the web site. For instance, the main function of YouTube is to share and view multimedia, while blogs are used to share information and to encourage interaction (i. e., comments) from readers. Furthermore, sites like LinkedIn encourage people to network with professionals who have similar interests. (See social networking definition below.)
What is social networking?
‘Social networking’ is a sub category of social media. They are online communities where people can join together to connect and interact over the Internet. For instance, Web sites like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn are considered social networking sites. The advantage is that you can easily connect with people in cities and states all over the world without ever leaving your office.
What is search engine optimization?
As defined by Wikipedia, “Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results.” The ideal result of an optimized web site is that the web site will appear on the first or second page of a search results list improving the odds that a prospect will visit the site and choose your company for a particular product or service. The process of SEO is carried out through a variety of methods including editing content to include relevant keyword search terms and including hyperlinks.
What is a URL?
URL is short for “Uniform Resource Locator” and is the unique address for a web page. For example, www.miamiherald.com will direct you to the Miami Herald’s home page, while www.miamiherald.com/sports/ will direct you to its Sports section.
What is a hyperlink?
When a web site address is clickable it is known as a hyperlink. For example, www.paws4you.org is a hyperlink.
What is hypertext?
A hypertext is a word or term on web page that when clicked on will direct you to a different web page. For example, when you click on the word “Blog” it automatically directs you to the Miss Ink blog.
