One Simple Way to Improve Facebook Engagement
Let’s assume you read our last post on increasing Facebook engagement and now have amazing, relevant, visually-stunning content. That still doesn’t guarantee your post will make it onto your fans’ newsfeeds, and since we have limited access to EdgeRank’s inner workings, we must supplement ways to attract your fans’ attention. You can augment engagement in one easy way: use tagging, one of the simplest tools available to you as a business page owner and Facebook user. Tagging fans and businesses in your posts is a surefire way to get their attention when EdgeRank works against you. Why Tag People and Business Pages on Facebook? Facebook business pages can tag other pages or business pages that they have liked, and they can tag followers who have commented on one of their posts. Owners of a business page can also tag their own friends in a comment and photo on their business page if they are using the page as themselves.  When you tag the company or the user, they will receive a notification telling them they’ve been tagged. If they’re paying attention they could respond to your tag, or visit your business page, making this a great way to build community and inspire them to share your page, as well. Any comments or activities that this business page makes would be seen as activity on their own Facebook profile, which will be seen by their own followers. In order to maximize this tool, update your list of relevant businesses to like. It would be beneficial for you to like a business page with a healthy following and then post updates on their page. Look for opportunities to tag pages, fans, and followers. It will make your business page seem more alive, approachable, present, and natural. How to Tag People When a customer or follower comments on one of your fabulous posts or pages, it’s a good idea to tag them. They will receive a notification that you’ve responded to their comment, making it easier for them to respond to you and for your engagement/response rate to increase. To tag fans, first enter your response to their comments and then type the “@” symbol, followed by their name. Their name should appear in a drop-down menu. You will know that you’ve tagged your fan by the light blue shading appearing as an outline around their name. You can make your response sound more natural by deleting your fan’s last name; simply hit the backspace key until the first name, then hit enter key. Benefits to Tagging Fans and Pages:
  • Tagging helps new clients and pages find you without having to spend ad money.
  • Conversations generated from tags make your business seem more personal and accessible.
  • Engaging customers and Pages is part of the elusive EdgeRank algorithm for more exposure.
Since EdgeRank takes into account the number of comments and engagement, it’s of the utmost importance to be swift in your responses; not a new concept in business networking or even making friends. When a new contact or friend calls, do you wait a couple of days to respond? If you’re interested in creating a relationship, the answer is no.
