As we approach 2020, it’s still evident that social media is here to stay – at least for the coming year. In 2020, we are predicting a rise of social media content, whether it be via new platforms or new ways to use existing platforms. One thing that hasn’t changed is the need for social media, no matter what type of business or brand you have. Social media is the best way to reach a massive audience. It’s a great way to keep your current clients informed about what your business has to offer and it’s an even better way to draw in new clients who have yet to experience your business or brand.
Here are five social media trends to watch in 2020:
1. Storytelling
In 2020, it’s all about telling your brand’s story. It’s become clear that Instagram and Facebook Stories are watched by millions of users a day. Stories provide a more authentic view into what’s happening. Sure, they can be curated with the help of third-party apps like StoryLuxe or Unfold, but for the most part, the content is created in the moment as a peek into a less edited more real world. Since Stories content disappears within 24 hours (unless saved as a highlights reel), it’s a smart way to capitalize on people’s desire to not miss out on deals, events, or recaps.
2. Quality over quantity content
With the removal of “likes” on Instagram in 2019, it’s made content less about how many people like it and the race to post constantly for views. This mind set has shown us that it’s no longer about posting constantly, as much as it is about posting high-quality content. Look at your social media as a digital portfolio of your brand’s proudest moments, products, and services. Posting quality content will keep you on the top of mind of your clients and potential clients. Need more tips for using Instagram? 3. One-on-One engagement to soar
Having personal conversations is becoming more and more important on social media. Users are engaging with Stories and in private direct messages more often than with newsfeed posts. With the ability to send posts and Stories directly to private groups, users are having side conversations, that while they may not be visible to brands – are some of the most important conversations. Social media users are also engaging with brands directly to ask questions and learn more about their services and products. These conversations have a direct connection to sales and new customer relations.
4. Influencer Marketing will grow
Social media influencers aren’t going anywhere in 2020, but the value of these influencers will no longer be based on how big their following is. Mirco-influencers (users with more than 2k followers but less than 50k) will be the most valued and sought after in the coming year. These influencers are typically more engaged and more in-tune with their following. Their followers, or at least the core of them, are genuinely interested and trust them, resulting in more follows and purchases of the brands they are promoting.
5. TikTok isn’t going anywhere
In 2019, TikTok outperformed all social media platforms. It’s a newer platform that’s targeting a much younger demographic, but is quickly developing an ad platform. TikTok is growing at an alarming rate, and while we may not completely understand it and it doesn’t seem like a fit for many brands – we aren’t going to out rule it’s importance in the digital marketing space just yet. TikTok, we’ve got our eyes on you.
