6 Holiday Social Media Marketing Tips for 2020
The holiday season is here and for businesses, that means having a social media marketing strategy in place. Whether you sell products or services or are B2B or B2C, there are some general marketing trends to be aware of in 2020 as you plan out your holiday marketing social media strategy.

Here are 6 holiday social media marketing tips for 2020:

  1. What’s something a business should do right now to prepare their marketing for the holiday season?

    1. Create a calendar. Look at important dates. If you have a product, know shipping deadlines.
    2. Decide on a theme. Think about what matters to your customers and clients right now and create a campaign around that. Maybe it’s an ongoing contest or a hashtag around a series.
    3. Think of ways you can make people feel involved virtually.
  1. When should I start promoting my holiday deals, services, etc.?

    1. We’re seeing Black Friday deals and early Cyber Week promotions flood the market.
    2. If you haven’t started yet, don’t worry that it’s too late and you’re falling behind. Instead, get creative with an attention-grabbing holiday campaign that gets to the heart of solving needs for your customers.
  1. What type of deals should my business send out?

    1. Consider early bird prices and early access to deals. For example, we’re not just seeing Cyber Monday promotions, we’re now seeing promotions like “early access to Cyber Week deals.”
    2. If the deal is exceptional, consider putting the price or savings front-and-center in your campaign.
  1. What are some shopping trends this holiday season?

    1. People want to feel good these days. Facebook found that over the years, people are buying small gifts for themselves during the holiday season. Self-gifting is just as popular (54%) as buying gifts for others (53%) during mega-sales events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Consider wording along the lines of “treat yourself” and focusing on self-care.
  1. What other types of messages should businesses consider other than holiday item sales or promotions?

    1. We’re seeing a surge in the importance of empathetic marketing. People want to feel connected, not sold to.  For example, if your company is doing something charitable, make that a part of your holiday messaging.
    2. They are also looking to see that companies treat their employees well and that the culture in the business operations is aligned with their values.
    3. Think about communication that makes people feel good and focus on an important message rather than the sale. For example, Amazon’s “The Show Must Go On” commercial.
  1. What other content trends should I be aware of this holiday season?

    1. Videos and live streams are huge right now. This allows people to connect virtually but also to get to know you better. It humanizes the digital marketing experience with your brand.
    2. Consider gathering user-generated content. For example, photos of people with your product. This creates buy-in from your customers, makes them feel appreciated, adds a level of realness with social proof, etc.
    3. Messaging that’s personal. Really think about what matters to them, and then create wording tailored to that. Is your target audience an individual buying something for themselves? Are you selling catering packages to families?
