Miss Ink's Tips for Working from Home

Miss Ink’s Tips for Working from Home
Due to the current outbreak of the coronavirus, most businesses in Florida have either closed, have limited business hours, or are working from home. While our team is lucky to be able to work from home, it has been an adjustment period as we have strictly been an “in-office” business. If you’re new to working remotely, then you probably know the feeling.  During this adjustment period we have had to learn a new way of communicating, figuring out when to work, and setting boundaries between work and personal life. After a week of working remotely, the Miss Ink Stars have come up with some tips to make working from home more productive and successful!

Tips for Working from Home

Miss Ink Star Amber Tips:
  1. Create a workspace where all of your ‘office essentials’ are within arm’s reach! – Whether your workspace is in your home office, desk area, vanity, or even snuggled in the couch, make sure you have all your essentials in one area to avoid having to get up every 5 minutes to reach something.
  2. Plan a to-do list. – To-do lists are a great way of organizing yourself and helping you stay on track.
  3. Let yourself take breaks. – It’s okay to get up and do something around the house for a few minutes if needed. It will give you a mental break and help you re-focus when you come back to your workspace.
Miss Ink Star Natalia Tips:
  1. Use the Pomodoro technique. – The pomodoro is a great way to allow yourself to focus on one task at a time with breaks in between. You can choose how long to focus on a task and how long your breaks are for a quick refresh which will allow you to accomplish more in the long run. Example: choose a task, work on it for 30-45 minutes, take a 5-minute break, and repeat.
  2. Call a group meeting if needed. – Sometimes group chats don’t get the entire message across and can leave you feeling confused. If there’s something you’re not grasping or understanding, ask if your co-worker or supervisor can jump on a quick call to answer any pending questions.
  3. Close unused tabs. – Working on different tasks or researching new projects might leave you with a lot of tabs open. Once you’re done with those tabs, close them (Save them to your bookmarks if you need them for later!) Having too many tabs open may make you feel disorganized and anxious.
Miss Ink Superstar Misty Tips:
  1. Do your best to stick to your normal schedule. –  It can be tempting to sleep in or take longer lunch breaks. There’s room for some flexibility, but you’ll get more done throughout the day and it’ll be a lot easier to go back to your normal workday if you stick to your everyday schedule.
  2. Have a group chat with your co-workers. – Every now and then, strike up a personal conversation whether that’s sharing a funny meme or talking about how your day is going aside from work. It helps to keep some normalcy.
  3. Get creative and study new things. – If you have some downtime, don’t waste it binge-watching TV for endless hours. There are opportunities to get creative by innovating new solution-driven products, services, and systems. I also highly recommend picking a few of the many free courses available on the web to continue your education and sharpen your skills.
